Lately, it feels like our house has been swimming in questions. The big, heavy kind that keeps you up long after everyone else is asleep. Questions about our kids, our family rhythm, and what might happen if we stopped following the usual script and just trusted our gut for once.
There have been a lot of late-night talks, some tears, plenty of prayer, and more Googling than I care to admit. After all that, we’ve decided to take our kids’ education into our own hands.
We’ve chosen to homeschool.
This wasn’t a snap decision. No big dramatic moment, no single straw that broke the camel’s back. It was slow. Layer by layer, as we watched our kids and listened to what our family needed right now. I’m sitting here, typing this, and I feel a deep peace. Not because I have all the answers (I’m a mom, not a miracle worker), but because I know this is right for us, right now.
I’m still figuring out how to explain the why. Homeschooling doesn’t exactly have the best PR, and I know some folks will think we’ve lost it. That’s fine. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that parenting choices always bring out opinions—especially the gutsy ones.
Let me be clear: this isn’t about being unhappy with our kids’ school. Actually, we were really grateful for it. Sure, there were the usual frustrations (what parent hasn’t had those?), but we felt supported. Our kids had teachers who cared, and we’ll always be thankful for that part of their story.
This isn’t about blame. It’s about listening—to our kids, to our gut, to what feels right for our family.
Over time, I’ve seen just how boxed-in most teachers really are. Most of them start with huge hearts and the best intentions. They want to do more. They want every kid to thrive. But the truth is, time, red tape, and insufficient resources make it almost impossible.
get it, because I’ve been there. I used to teach, so I know the exhaustion, the juggling, the wanting to give more than the system lets you. My heart aches for teachers doing their best in a system that doesn’t always have their backs. They deserve better. Our kids do too.
One of the best surprises in all this has been the encouragement from our kids’ teachers. Their kindness reminded me that this isn’t about taking sides. It’s about respect and working together. Homeschooling feels like the next right step for us. A way to slow down, pay attention, and let each kid learn in their own way. We get to nurture curiosity, character, and confidence—not just check off boxes. It gives us space to breathe, to explore, to learn without the rush or the pressure of the school bell.
I know this is going to be a big adjustment. There will be messy days—uncertain moments. And let’s be honest, most of the learning curves will be mine. It’ll take time to find our groove. But there’s genuine excitement here too—honest-to-goodness excitement—for what’s ahead.
This is a new season for us. One with more intention, more flexibility, more faith, and a whole lot of grace (because we’ll need it).
And as always, I’ll be sharing the journey with you. Right here, in the middle of the mess, where real life, faith, and chaos all show up at the same time.
