Are Breast Milk Lollies Safe? Breast milk lollies and soaring temperatures. Summer is still a few months away, and parents will be doing all they can to keep their babies cool.
Breast milk lollies have been around for a few years now, but are they worth it?
Many moms have chosen to create their own lollies to help with sore gums and heat-induced frustrations. All you need to do is pump milk, fill the molds (which are available in leading stores) and freeze. Apparently, the breast milk lollies take a while to freeze, so it is advisable to make them a few days before use.
Moms are saying that this is a great way to cool down their little ones and increase their nutrient intake.
Breast Milk Lollies? Do or Don’t
Even Medela is endorsing this innovative âteethingâ ring.
Time to get creative with your breast milk! We all know how amazing breast milk is for our little ones, but did you know that you can use it to make popsicles to help ease teething pain? If your baby has been introduced to solids, you can even add some fruits and veggies to your milk before freezing.
When making the breast milk popsicles, make sure to only include ingredients that your baby has already been introduced to. Blend all ingredients until completely smooth â large chunks of frozen fruit or veggies can be a choking hazard for babies.
Start with getting a baby popsicle mold that will be easy for your baby to hold on to.
So, are they safe?
However, according to The Mirror â Dr. Carol Cooper has stated that you can ârisk damage to your childâs lips, mouth and tongueâ.
âWhen you think of a teething ring, there is no contact with the ice and silicon usually protects the babyâs mouth. What worries me is direct contact with the ice as this can cause what doctors call âthermal injuriesâ. Breast milk should be given to babies at the right consistency and temperature â as it is. If your baby needs cooling down, there are other ways, such as taking layers off.â
There seem to be a few different opinions on this topic!
Have you ever made âmumsiclesâ (aka breast milk lollies) and what has been your personal experience? Did they work for your baby? Or was it an epic fail?

Interesting. It wouldnât have occurred to me to do this. Not sure I would have to be honest.
Me neither. But it seems to be a thing at the moment? Would be interesting to hear from a mom who has made these “mumsicles”
