    #itsOK bloggers linky # 17

A new week, a new link up!!! Thanks to everyone that joined our little group of linkers last week! Pop on over to Nicole of Tales from Mamaville to share your posts! What’s this linky about? In a sentence, it’s about cutting ourselves some slack as parents. We’ve all been there – that place where we feel we’re not doing our best as mums or dads, that we aren’t giving our 100 percent day in and day out. Where mom-guilt shrouds us every time we bottle-feed instead of breastfeed or give our toddlers chicken nuggets instead of a home-cooked-from-scratch meal. Where we are constantly playing catch-up instead of enjoying our…

    #itsOK bloggers linky – Week 16

#ItsOK bloggers linky – Week 16 The sh*t schools make us do?? I am so sick and tired of having to get creative for my kids school! Seriously! If it’s not dressing them up, fundraisers, making veggie trains and joining the PTA – yes, I did that this year, don’t ask me why! It must have been after a few glasses of wine… This all just seems so ridiculous, especially since I have 5 kids and each different kid has a different function almost each day of the week! What happened to good old schooling, go to school, learn and come right home. Right now it feels like all I…

The Kids Gym opens in Cedar Square

An action-packed space for SA kids to get fit The number of South African children suffering from obesity doubled in six years, according to recent reports, with the country’s children at risk from poor nutrition and the sedentary lifestyles that have become synonymous with increased access to tables and other technologies. This is all in an environment where it’s just not safe for children to be sent to ‘go out and play’ unsupervised. The Kids Gym, now open at the centrally located and upmarket Cedar Square in Northern Johannesburg, is the answer for parents wanting to take their children to a non-competitive space that nurtures a love for physical activity,…

    Week 11 – The #itsok Linky

We’re back!!! And yes, #itsok to be running haggard !! Jeepers, it feels like Christmas and New Year were just yesterday! I cannot believe that I am into week 2 of school already. My little girl started Grade R and my boys are now in Grade 2 and 3. How did that happen? My youngest daughter starts pre-school on Wednesday and my baby boy (who is 20 months) starts his baby class on Wednesday as well! The best part, they finish at 3 different times. 12:30, 13:30 and 14:00… I’m like a glorified taxi 🙂 That being said, its great to be back in routine! My kids are sleeping better…

    Week 10 – The #itsok Linky

Yes, you read that right! I have joined the #itsok linky… Since moving back to South Africa, I have been trying to figure out a way forward in my blogging. It has been a long road, I won’t lie. I almost shut my entire blog down, mostly because of my frustration of it crashing TWICE!. Transitioning back into our home country was not as easy as I thought it would be. (Not to mention baby #5, who is now 18 months old) 🙂 But, here I am taking it one day at a time, trying to find my feet again. So, when Carly from Mom Of Two Little Girls, (a…

Do We Really Know What Our Children Are Eating?

DECIPHER FOOD LABELS WITH THESE SIMPLE TIPS   If you’ve ever been stumped looking at food label wording in the supermarket aisle, trying to decipher GDA from NRV’s, per 100g from per serving, kilojoules from calories and more, then you’re not alone. Translating the nutritional information on a food label into actionable knowledge can get confusing for most consumers.  Nestlé South Africa decided to survey some of its Good Food Conversations community to uncover just how confusing nutritional information really is. While most of the consumers surveyed recognised the importance of wellness, proper nutrition and were taking steps towards living healthier lifestyles, they also admitted they didn’t go too much out of their…

Geocaching – Technology and 21st Century Fun

In this day and age, while technology rules the roost, getting our kids outdoors can be difficult. Surfing the Web on Ipads, “connecting” with friends through social media apps on smartphones, or (if you’re old-school) playing games on Xbox or PlayStation, often takes preference over getting out, running around, rolling on the grass and jumping in the pool. I for one don’t like seeing my kids stuck inside when they could be enjoying the great outdoors and making memories. I have nothing against technology, however, I do feel that there needs to be a balance between incorporating it into our daily lives alongside good old fashioned Gross-Motor activities. If you’re…

Should I Be Sleep Training My Child?

I’ve come to the point where I seriously think I need help – sleep help? Do I? That’s the question I have been asking myself so much these past few weeks. I keep telling myself that it will all end soon. Doesn’t it? I never had to sleep train my older 4 children. My eldest 2 sons just slept through. I mean, they woke up early and that was fine, but they generally slept from 7 pm to 5 am. My 2 daughters slept well. They would feed, sleep until about 1 am, feed and sleep until 6 am. I’m totally clueless at this point! However, this last little guy…

    Mom Guilt vs Teacher Guilt

There are so many changes happening in my life right now… “Mom” choices I’ve needed to make… You know the kind; when your decision directly affects the life of your family in a way that goes beyond what the kids eat for breakfast. Its taken its toll on me, but I’ve had a few months to reflect on where I need want to be. Searching myself, figuring out what is important right now, and even confronting the sense of self-imposed guilt that comes with putting ‘self’ first. Let me tell you the story… We’ve been back in South Africa for just over a year and I haven’t been blogging that…

Motherhood Isn’t Perfect, So Why Do Some Parents Pretend It Is?

I’m about to have a little rant, discussion (on motherhood)… I hope you don’t mind! The fact that some people think parenting can be perfect, baffles me! Seriously, it does. I read a post on Facebook the other day, which clearly stated that any mom can go shopping in peace, have enough good sleep, doesn’t need to cook with a baby in one arm and that a mother can even go to the toilet without disruption, and mothers who lament that they never have a moment’s silence, where buying into nonsense, and bullshit! Yup, it said that! This post basically said that mothers can do life without ever being disrupted?…
