Yummy South African Crunchies..

I often find that I need to whip up a sweet treat ASAP! These Crunchies are a huge hit in South Africa. (Where I am from) So I thought I would share the recipe with you!

Ingredients

4 Cups Oats

3 Cups Shredded Coconut – Unsweetened

1 Cup Flour

1 1/2 Cups Sugar

1/2 tsp Salt

1 tsp Cinnamon

1 Cup Salted Butter

3 Tsp Honey or Golden Syrup

1/4 Cup Milk (Full Fat)

2 tsp Baking Soda

200g Milk Chocolate

Non-Stick Baking Spray

Method

Preheat oven to 325’F / 160’C

Spray Baking Pan (9 inch by 14 inch)

Mix all the dry ingredients together except the Baking Soda

Crunchies 1

Combine the syrup/honey with the butter and melt. Allow to cool. (5 minutes)

Crunchies 2

Stir Baking Soda into the milk, make sure it dissolves.

Crunchies 3

Add the cooled butter to the milk. Combine with the dry ingredients.

This is where it gets fun, get your hands dirty and mix all the ingredients together.

Spoon into the Baking Pan, flatten and cover with foil.

My suggestion is to bake for 15 minutes with the foil, uncover and bake for a further 15 minutes until golden brown. For a chewy Crunchie bake for 30 minutes. For a more crunchier Crunchie bake for 35/40 min. Just keep an eye on it.

Remove from the oven and using a sharp tipped knife cut your squares.

Melt the chocolate.

Crunchies 4

Drizzle over. Allow to cool.

Crunchies 5

These Crunchies are absolutely delicious! A huge hit in our house! In fact, I actually made some this week.

Enjoy

These look delicious, what a lovely present. I’m definitely going home made for teacher gifts when he is older. Bucket and spade is just hilarious, I hope they enjoyed. Thanks for sharing with #abrandnewday

Love Love Love crunchies. And they are easy enough for the little ones to help make. Great inspiration for my weekend baking project. #globalblogging

Looks good! With all the oats, it also looks like it would be good for breast milk production (apparently where my head has been at recently, lol). #globalblogging
